3-D Areola Tattooing

One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is working with breast cancer survivors. 3-D areola tattooing is a procedure for women and men who have lost one or both nipples through surgery or trauma. By using advanced tattooing techniques the appearance of the nipple can be restored to a more natural appearance after mastectomy, breast reduction scars or trauma.

Areola re-pigmentation is a medical tattooing that improves the appearance and esteem of both woman and men who have undergone breast surgery. Areola re-pigmentation can create an areola after breast reconstruction minimizing the appearance of scars to restore areola to a more natural looking color and shape.

Is an anesthetic used for areola tattooing? Anesthetic is not always necessary. In some cases a topical anesthetic may be applied if needed for any discomfort you may have. Ice can be applied to the area when you get home over the gauze this can be very soothing. You will be given full aftercare instructions before you go home and you are always welcome to contact me with any questions after you leave. I am always available.

How long will It take?

Areola tattooing is a relatively quick procedure. The treatment time will be about two hours, this will include design, choosing the desired color for your areola, design photos and paperwork. A single areola can often be completed in about one hour, but some treatments take longer.

When will I need a retouch?

The tattoo pigments used for your areola tattooing are long-lasting, but that does not mean they will last forever. If fading occurs you may wish to return to our office for a follow-up treatment. The process for touch ups will be similar to the initial treatment but may be shorter. I always include a free touch- up with every application. This will be 6 to 8 weeks after your first visit. Please book before you leave.

What Should I expect after treatment?

You will leave with a surgical dressing and Vaseline covering the tattoo site. You will experience some redness on and around the recreated areola, but this will be a short-lived side effect. Following your treatment, the pigment will appear darker but it will fade substantially as you heal. You will need to avoid swimming, hot tubs, tanning beds for 14 full days. Please pick up 4x4 gauze, Vaseline and wear a loose sports bra or an old bra.

All areola tattooing is paid at the time of the treatment. You are welcome to file your insurance.

Three years ago I had "that surgery" preceded by a lot of thought, a lot of research, a lot of prayer, and a lot of hope. My decision was based on being preemptive and preventative but so many twists and turns in the road made me a true survivor. Inner Circle, LeAnne Weaver Tillman, Laurie Riley, and Bettye Lynn Bellar Richert, once again, I cannot thank you enough for your love, care, commitment, and diligence! It is surreal to remember now the long, unexpected, and tenuous road on which you accompanied me. Kristina Kotseos O'Shaughnessy, Laura Futrell, and Jeanette Wirz, thank you for using your gifts, talents, and expertise to treat and put me back together! What a great team of strong, competent women! Thank you again Jeanette! You were awesome!

I wish I would have done this sooner!

I had areola re-pigmentation after areola reduction procedure left me with peri-areolar scars and lightened areolas which made me extremely self-conscious. Jeanette was wonderful! Very professional but also down to earth and made me feel very comfortable. She did a fantastic job at making my areolas look normal again, and I can't say enough how much that improved my confidence and comfort in my own skin. I would highly recommend her! Thank you so much Jeanette! Marcie. Jan 201
